Save Our Water (logo)

SOH2O’s mission is to protect the fresh water supplies in the state of Maine; however, in recognition of the larger issue of Global Water Scarcity, we stand in solidarity with those all over the world who are working to increase awareness of this issue and those who are fighting for local democratic control of their water resources.

This battle to save our water is just one front of a larger fight, not just to protect our water, but to take back our democracy. While SOH2O is focused on saving Maine’s water supplies, we clearly recognize that there are other battles to be fought and won if we are to leave a better life to our children and their children. We salute all those who make the time to get involved so that we may leave this earth a better place for the generations to come.

Our Mission
Recognizing water as a public trust, the mission of SOH2O is to prevent large-scale water extraction for resale from the Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Wells (KKW) watershed.

The mission of Save Our Water (SOH2O) is to ensure that the citizens of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Wells:
maintain control of surface and ground water
recognize water as a public trust
prevent large-scale water extraction for commercial use for resale by multi-national corporations

Our Philosophy
We believe our ground water, springs, streams and ponds are a precious resource that belongs to the people and nature and should be managed for the common good of all living beings. Clean and available water is essential to life and it should not be a commodity that people are required to purchase from profit driven corporations.

Our Goals
To meet the Mission SOH2O we will work to implement the following goals:
Pass water extraction ordinances in all towns served by KKW Water District or communities affected by such extraction.
Ensure that Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Wells Water District follows their charter as constituted by State law.
Educate the communities served by Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Wells Water District to the dangers of large corporate water extraction, and the importance of local citizen control of water as a public trust.
Work with other groups in the Maine to enact State legislation that protects surface and ground water statewide.
